The teen had been hospitalized after shooting herself in a Schley Street home around 11:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said previously.
She died around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at University Hospital, sources said.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
